About us. Vision

“Philadelphia” church was founded in the city of Izhevsk, the Udmurt Republic, in 1992. In Greek its name means “brotherly love”. The reason to choose this name wasn’t only the desire to show an example of loving relationships within the church and with people around but also the promise that God gave through John the Evangelist to one of the seven churches. It was the church in an ancient city of Philadelphia situated on the territory of modern Turkey:

“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of Him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept My Word and have not denied My Name…Since you have kept My command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth” (Revelation 3:7,8,10)

Through the Apostle God speaks of this church without any reproach and rebuke, but seeing its faithfulness He promises to save it. Our church wants to be this kind of church in the eyes of God, to remain faithful to Him and fulfil His Word. “Philadelphia” church is a Protestant church, although such distinction originates not with God but with people. At bottom we are above and out of any confession so we are open to have fellowship with Christians of other confessions.

We believe in and affirm:

  • the acknowledgement of absolute power and authority of God Himself;
  • forgiveness is a free gift of God’s grace to all mankind given through the saving death and resurrection of Jesus Christ;

  • the Holy Scripture is the only source of Christian revelation and each believer has a right to understand and interpret the Bible;

  • church is a congregation of believers, where the Gospel is preached in all its purity;

  • every believer is a priest and needs no "specially appointed mediators".

We believe in apostolic baptism in the Holy Spirit with all signs manifesting spiritual gifts in order for His Church to be formed and unbelievers to be saved.

We acknowledge the biblical order that Apostles confirmed for marriage and premarital relationship, church service and relationships inside the church.

We believe in the mission to reach each tribe and every nation with the Gospel and to do social work inside and outside the Church.

We confirm the importance of not only spiritual but also of secular education since any ignorance especially the spiritual one is aggressive and extremist.

We believe we should have normal relationships and even cooperation with authorities the way it is described in the Holy Scripture.

Our goals:

1. To save 70,000 people in Izhevsk and to teach them to love the Lord, the church, the people dying in their sins, and to serve them for their salvation.
2. To prepare more than 1,500 pastors, teachers, social workers, and missionaries for ministry.
3. To educate the church so that as a result 10% of its members would become missionaries in Russia and abroad.
4. To open more than 150 churches in different regions of Russia.

At present there are 71 religious groups and churches on the territories of Udmurtia, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, the Perm Region, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Region, the Mari-El Republic, and the Tyumen Region. All of them form the Association of “Philadelphia” churches.

Legally the “Philadelphia” church belongs to the Russian Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith (former Christians of Faith of Evangelical Pentecostals). It is legally registered in the Department of the Ministry of Justice of Russia in the Udmurt Republic. Annually we account to the relevant State authorities.

Senior pastor of the “Philadelphia” church is Pavel I. Zhelnovakov, Deputy of Head Bishop of the RC CEF in Volga and Ural Federal Districts.
